CRIMINAL CHARGES BROUGHT BY THE CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATION IN APRIL 2008 |
|
During April 2008, the Customs Administration of the Republic of Macedonia brought criminal charges in 14 cases against 6 legal and 15 natural persons. The charges were brought on grounds of reasonable doubts of committed criminal acts including customs fraud, smuggling, manufacture and release for free circulation of hazardous materials, harmful medical substances, counterfeiting money, document forgery, illegal manufacturing, illegal trade and wrongful acquisition of financial advantage from illegal import and release for free circulation of goods being subject of payment of excise duties.

The customs controls conducted at the Border Crossing Points and on the territory of the Republic of Macedonia resulted in prevention of several attempts for illicit import of undeclared goods, as well as goods for which there are reasonable doubts of infringing the intellectual property rights of protected trade marks.

With reference to the notification of 10th April 2008, published by the Customs Administration of the Republic of Macedonia regarding the seizure of 901 books, films and brochures which was made at the Medzitlija BCP, in which it was stated that they were with controversial Islamic propaganda and destined for the Islamic fundamentalists from the Republic of Finland, we take this opportunity to appologise to all the people in Macedonia who expressed their reaction as a revolt and protest against the accuracy of the information.

The customs controls conducted during the Easter holidays resulted in prevention of several attempts for illegal trafficking of undeclared goods into the Republic of Macedonia, as well as goods for which there are reasonable doubts of violating the intellectual property rights of several protected trade marks. Appropriate charges (criminal or offence) of customs offence charges have been immediately brought against the suspects and procedures to establish the liability of the perpetrators have been initiated before the competent authorities.
