Today, 11 th July 2010, the Customs Administration of the Republic of Macedonia, in the presence of highest Government representatives, representatives of the institutions from Kosovo, members of NATO-KFOR and business representatives, organized a ground-breaking ceremony to mark the beginning of the civil works for melioration of the border crossing point Blace – passenger terminal. The Project is financed by the World Bank under the Second Trade and Transport Facilitation Project in South East Europe. The civil works will be done by GRANIT AD, a civil engineering company. The works are expected to come to an end in 14 months following the official start.
At this moment, BCP Blace is a bottle-neck for the traffic flow and the exchange of goods and services between Macedonia and the northern states along the Adriatic highway.
The Project envisages increase of the number of traffic lanes from 2 to 4 at entrance and from 2 to 3 at exit from the country, as well as construction of modern premises for performance of the necessary border and customs formalities by the competent agencies, including: a new administrative building for Customs, Police and the Inspectorates, facilities for passenger control, bus controls, a separate building for other services: bank, post office, control booths and new canopies. Construction of a separate transformer station and diesel aggregate and a modern waste waters filtration station is also planned.
The new passenger terminal will encompass all necessities for normal functioning and control of passengers and means of transport. The real traffic flow capacity of the border point is expected to be increased 2-3 times, compared to the current situation.
With the realization of this Project, the Republic of Macedonia will gain another modern border crossing point with new infrastructure that will ensure faster and easier cross-border flow, thus meeting the needs of the business community and the citizens.
