 This weekend at the Skopje Airport Alexander the Great, the customs officials prevented an attempt for illegal take-out of EUR 31,000.
In the afternoon of 11th July 2010, a Macedonian citizen checked in on a flight from Skopje to Istanbul. When asked if he had anything to declare, the passenger, who was targeted for customs control, said he only had 2,000 euros on him. However, during the detailed search, the customs officials found 33,000 euros. According to the Macedonian regulations, 2,000 euros were returned to the passenger, while the rest was seized.
Previously, on 09th July at the same customs office, the officials seized 10 cartons of Marlboro cigarettes, found during the inspection of the suitcases of a Macedonian citizen, who arrived on a flight from Budapest.
Besides the above, the customs Mobile Units last week seized the following goods:
- 8,500 lighters, bearing the logo of BMW found during customs control of a container loaded with goods originating in China, declared for import clearance оat the Customs Office Kumanovo, by a company importer from Skopje. Due to reasonable doubts that the goods violate the intellectual property rights of the brand in question, and pursuant the provisions of the Law on IPR Protection, the Customs Administration will begin a procedure for verification of the authenticity of the seized goods.
- 164 textile products (women’s underwear), found during customs control of a car with Bulgarian license plates, driven by a Macedonian citizen, declared for entrance at the border crossing Deve Bair. The undeclared goods were concealed in the back bumper, inside the front right door and in the factory-made cavities of the boot of the car.
- 2 9-month-old German Spitz dogs, found in a car with Macedonian license plates, driven by a Macedonian citizen, which was stopped for control at the petrol station DELTA OIL near Kumanovo. The dogs, for which the driver did not have any relevant documents proving the origin or paid customs duties, were concealed under the co-driver’s seat of the vehicle.
- 2 car tyres Continental, with aluminum wheels and 1 refrigerator found during scanning of a Macedonian truck, driven by a Macedonian citizen, declared for entrance in the country at the border crossing Tabanovce. The undeclared goods were concealed in the chassis of the vehicle.
*At the border crossing Jazince – 63 fashion accessories (necklaces, rings, earrings and belts) found during customs control of a car with Swiss license plates, driven by a Macedonian citizen, declared for entrance in the country. The undeclared goods were concealed behind the back seats of the vehicle.
