BILATERAL MEETING OF THE DGs OF ITALIAN AND MACEDONIAN CUSTOMS

On 13th and 14th July, a delegation of the Italian Customs Agency, led by the Director General Mr. Giuseppe Peleggi paid a visit to the Macedonian Customs Administration. During the meeting with the Director General of the Macedonian Customs, Mr. Vanco Kargov, they discussed and reviewed several issues related to the intensive cooperation in the activities for fulfillment of the requirements for further modernization in order to meet the needs of the users and customs clients.  Trade facilitation, fight against customs frauds, application of modern means and equipment in the daily operations are the future priorities for mutual cooperation.

It was also stressed that besides the bilateral cooperation, in order to meet the expectations of the Customs Services and achieve greater efficiency is very important to further deepen the regional cooperation, for which both parties are making efforts.  It was concluded that through mutual cooperation and coordination between both services and intensive contacts with the other Customs Services in the region, the already established regional forms of cooperation are well based grounds for further progress.
The DGs confirmed their commitment to continue the Project, supported by the European Union and the Italian Customs Agency for development of electronic data exchange between the countries of the region.

In cooperation with the Italian Customs Agency, as leader of the IT@MAC Consortium there are ongoing activities for development of a new Customs Declaration Processing System (CDPS), which will be compatible for interconnection with the EU customs systems.

Within their visit, the Italian delegation visited the most frequent border crossing point Tabanovce, where they had the opportunity to see how it operates, the functioning of the Single Window system and a static X-ray inspection of a truck.
