Today, 26th August 2019, the Prime Ministers of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Serbia Zoran Zaev and Ana Brnabic marked the official launch of joint controls at the BCP Tabanovce - Preshevo. High delegations and senior Customs and Police representatives of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Serbia attended the event, as well as representatives of the chambers of commerce.

What we get with this joint border crossing:

Faster flow of passengers, goods and vehicles. Benefits for citizens, travelers, tourists and the business community. Border crossing time will be reduced by more than half. Greater number of tourists in the two countries, as well as transit tourists;

Control and of border formalities by all competent authorities at one stop. This is the most important benefit for the companies, as customs clearance time will be cut down by more than half, customs controls will be carried out in one place. Envisaged mutual recognition of certificates granted by border agencies: phyto sanitary and veterinary;

A higher degree of harmonization of border controls and better application of integrated border management concept;

Reduced possibility for customs fraud due to direct insight into the commercial documents that track the goods;

Saving resources for realization of the the concept;

Greater level of trust, cooperation and information exchange. This should contribute in addition to facilitating trade, reducing the possibility of corruption and enhancing stability and security in the region.

With the introduction of a new mode of operation through joint border control, Corridor 10 will become more attractive and efficient for export, import and transit of goods. At the same time, closer co-operation between the services will results in better detection rates of illegal cross-border activities, thereby enhancing security. The ultimate goal of joint controls is to have open but controlled and safe borders, through enhanced coordination and cooperation between all competent border authorities at national and international level.

The Customs Administration hereby informs that the new regime at this border crossing point will be implemented as follows: 

Passenger traffic:

Border control in the direction from Serbia towards North Macedonia shall be carried out by all competent authorities of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Serbia on the territory of the Republic of North Macedonia at BCP  Tabanovce.

Border control in the direction from North Macedonia towards Serbia shall be carried out by all competent authorities of the Republic of Serbia and North Macedonia on the territory of the Republic of Serbia, at BCP Preshevo.

Cargo traffic

Border control in the direction from Serbia towards North Macedonia shall be carried out by all competent authorities of the Republic of North Macedonia and Serbia on the territory of the Republic of North Macedonia at BCP Tabanovce.

Border control in the direction from North Macedonia towards Serbia shall be carried out by all competent authorities of the Republic of Serbia and North Macedonia on the territory of the Republic of Serbia, at BCP Preshevo.
