In December, the customs officers prevented several attempts for smuggling various goods, including a luxury watch, apparel, footwear, cigarettes, computers, printer, foreign license plates, counterfeits etc.

The following was impounded:

Luxury watch

- Luxury watch worth 35 thousand Euros, detected at the border crossing point Bogorodica, entrance section with a Greek national driving a Bulgarian registered passenger motor vehicle. The watch was found under the driver's seat in a black bag, together with an invoice bearing the name of a Swiss national. The watch is of the brand Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore worth 2.2 million denars, while the estimated evaded customs duties amount to 525,800 denars.

Criminal charges have been filed against the perpetrator for tax evasion and the watch has been impounded.

Apparel and footwear

- 1,418 pieces of apparel (underwear, jackets, tights, tracksuits, leggings, hats and socks) and 83 pairs of trainers, detected during inspection control of a Finnish passenger van, driven by a Finnish national at the border crossing point Bogorodica, entrance section. The undeclared goods, found in 8 suitcases, 2 cardboard boxes and 2 bags, placed in the boot of the vehicle, were impounded and appropriate proceedings will be taken against the driver.

- 15 pairs of sport footwear, detected by the Customs Mobile Teams, during control of a Macedonian registered car, driven by a Macedonian citizen at the border crossing point Bogorodica, entrance section. The undeclared footwear, found in a paper bag and a travel bag, placed on the back seats of the vehicle, were impounded and a request for misdemeanor procedure will be filed against the driver.

Cigarettes

- 100 boxes of cigarettes, detected in two separate cases at the Skopje International Airport.

In the first case, in the checked-in luggage of a Kosovo citizen intending to travel to Sweden, the customs officers found 50 cartons of Winston 100'scigarettes with Macedonian excise stamps.

In the second case, in the personal checked–in luggage of a Macedonian national, intending to travel to Sweden, the customs officers found 50 cartons of Winston cigarettes without excise stamps, which the passenger stated he had purchased from a the Greek Duty-Free Shop.

In both cases, the undeclared cigarettes were seized and offense proceedings will be brought against the passengers.

- 51 cartons of Marlboro cigarette without excise stamps, detected by police officers during search of a Turkish bus near the toll station Petrovec. The undeclared cigarettes, found on the last seats of the bus, were handed over to the Mobile Customs Teams for further processing. The cigarettes were impounded and a request for misdemeanor proceedings will be filed against the tourist guide, a Macedonian national who claimed to be the owner.

- 12 cartons of OME cigarettes without excise stamps, found during control of a Greek registered car, driven by a Greek national at the border crossing point Bogorodica, entrance section. The undeclared cigarettes, found in a specially adapted space between the gas tank in the luggage compartment and the back seats, divided by upholstered and painted cardboard were impounded and misdemeanor proceedings will be initiated against the driver.

Other goods

- 2 new desktop PCs with HP Desktop pro G2 mark and 1 new HP laser jet pro MFP M130fw scanner printer, detected by the Customs Mobile Teams, during control of a Serbian registered Land Rover Jeep, driven by a Turkish national that arrived at the border crossing point Tabanovce Motorway, entrance section. The undeclared devices, found in the boot of the vehicle, were impounded and a request for misdemeanor proceedings was initiated against the driver.

- 390 pieces, 2 pairs, 24 sets and 36 liters of various goods (electric and hand tools, vehicle parts, saws, washing powder, deodorants, drinks), detected by the Customs Mobile Teams of the Customs Office Tabanovce, during control of freight motor vehicle driven by a Macedonian citizen.

- 2D projector lens marker SONY LKRL-Z519 and 3D projector lens marker SONY LKRL-Z502, detected by the customs officers at the Customs Office Airport Skopje found with a Turkish citizen who arrived from Turkey.

- 1 set of Bulgarian license plates and traffic licenses, found during control of a Bulgarian registered SUV, driven by a Macedonian national at the border crossing point Delchevo, exit section. The plates and traffic licenses, which the driver said belonged to a passenger vehicle owned by him, but were sold as waste because the vehicle was damaged in a traffic accident, were found in a bag placed under the co-driver's seat. They were impounded and misdemeanor proceedings will be initiated against the driver.

Goods suspected of infringing intellectual property rights

- 2,134 teddy bear toys bearing the marks of a protected trademark, detected by the Customs Mobile Teams in cooperation with customs inspectors of the Investigation Department, during control of goods originating in China, destined for an importer from the village of Labunista, declared for import customs clearance at the Customs Office Bitola. Due to suspicions that the products infringe intellectual property rights, they have been detained and a procedure to establish their authenticity will be initiated in accordance with the law.

During the past two weeks, the customs officers prevented several attempts for smuggling various goods, including materials for surgery, lenses for glasses, eye lenses, turbo pumps, refrigeration cabinet parts, spare parts for lorries, clothing and cigarettes.

Delegation of the Customs Administration of the Republic of North Macedonia led by the Director General Gjoko Tanasoski participated on the 16th Meeting of the Subcommittee on Trade, Industry, Customs and Taxation, that was held in Brussels on 13th November.

Over the past four weeks, the customs officers have prevented several attempts for smuggling of various goods, including clothing, decorations, surgical materials, eye glasses, eye lenses, olive oil, supplements, perfumes, hydraulic oil, used bicycles and scooters, hookah aroma and counterfeits.
